Inside the Cathedral — Many who have visited the Metropolitan Cathedral feel that it has a welcoming atmosphere, rather than an intimidating aura that they may feel in the Gothic churches of old. No doubt there are many detractors who believe that this structure is not "churchy", however, the cathedral is grand, quite beautiful, graceful and absolutely awe inspiring when seen from the interior on a sunny day. Locally the Metropolitan Cathedral is affectionately called "Paddy's Wigwam" because of its largely Irish Catholic congregation as well as its resemblance to a Native American teepee. For those who feel comfortable in this church, a wigwam is appropriate, as a wigwam is meant to be warm and comfortable to all that enter. |
