The Metropolitan Cathedral, Liverpool (L3)

Liverpool Metropolitan CathedralMetropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King — Its circular plan with chapels built in between the buttresses that support the tent-shaped spire like tent poles; with modern stained glass was designed in response to the Second Vatican Council's mandate stating that there should be greater participation in the lay faithful in liturgical celebrations. Whether or not this modern design has captured the spirit of this mandate has become irrelevant, as the cathedral draws thousands of visitors each year who of course, voice their own opinion. The Metropolitan Cathedral, Christ of King, designed by Sir Frederick Gibberd was consecrated in 1967.
